The acting Chief Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, Her Ladyship the Honourable Margaret Price-Findlay will deliver the opening address at the 9th annual Caribbean Medicolegal and Forensic Science symposium on November 6, 2025 at the Harbor Club Curio Collection, Rodney Bay, Saint Lucia.
The three-day symposium, under the theme “Miscarriages of Justice in the Caribbean: A Real or Imagined Risk,’’ will bring together judicial officers, lawyers, forensic pathologists, doctors, police officers, forensic scientists and other professionals to discuss their experiences and recommend improvements to the delivery of justice and the prevention of miscarriages.
Presenters are drawn from across the Caribbean, Belize, the United States of America, Canada, Morocco, South Africa and Sri Lanka.
The symposium, which is organized by the Caribbean Medicolegal Society and the Saint Lucia Forensic Science Laboratory, is hybrid, with both in- person and online participants.
Presentations will cover a broad range of topics, and historical and recent cases, including:

The review by a forensic pathologist of the 1998 death of an 11-year- old boy whose body was recovered from a domestic pool (Trinidad and T obago).

The medicolegal death investigation in a high-profile case where a girl’s body was discovered in a hotel pool. (Guyana).

A medical negligence case involving excessive radiation doses and the professional, ethical and moral considerations for doctors (Trinidad and Tobago).

The deciphering and interpretation of forensic DNA analysis reports.

An expert forensic pathology review of a “murder that never was.

Demonstration of practical courtroom testimony, using a mock sexual assault case to demonstrate duties, roles and function of expert witnesses.
