House of Assembly to meet, Thursday

DISCUSSIONS INCLUDE ZERO-RATED VAT ON SELECTED CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS, PASSPORT AND IMMIGRATION AMENDMENTS.

A Sitting of the House of Assembly is scheduled for Thursday, July 3, with Papers to be laid by the Honourable Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Economic Development, Youth Economy, Justice and National Security; the Honourable Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture and Information; the Honourable Minister for Commerce, Manufacturing, Business Development, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs; and the Honourable Senior Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Ports, Transport, Physical Development and Urban Renewal. 

The Motions for consideration are as follows

  1. BE IT RESOLVED that Parliament by affirmative resolution approves the draft Value Added Tax (Amendment of Schedule 3) (No. 2) Order which amends Schedule 3 of the Act to include as an exempt import, the import of two vehicles by the MV Logos Hope for the period commencing from the 16th day of June, 2025 and terminating on the 2nd day of July, 2025. 
     
  2. BE IT RESOLVED that Parliament do authorize the Attorney General to make an Order to declare that the 2023 Supplement to the Revised Edition of the Laws of Saint Lucia, as specified in the Order shall come into force on such date as may be appointed by such Order, as an authoritative version of the law.
     
  3. BE IT RESOLVED that Parliament by affirmative resolution approves the draft Value Added Tax (Amendment of Schedule 1) Order, which amends Schedule 1 of the Act to include as zero-rated goods for the period commencing from the second day of August, 2025 and terminating on the 31st day of May, 2026, a supply of goods under the following Customs Tariff Headings — 
  • 25.23 Cement 
  • 3925.90.10 Other Articles of Plastic 
  • 3925.90.20 
  • 3925.90.90 
  • 44.07 to 44.18 Lumber and Plywood 
  • 44.20 to 44.21 
  • 72.01 to 72.16 Galvanize and Steel 
  • 73.01 to 73.18 
  • 76.01 to 76.10 
  • 76.16 
  • 8302.41.00 Base Metal Mountings suitable for Buildings.

Thursday’s Sitting is scheduled to commence at 10 a.m.  The Sitting of the Senate is scheduled for Tuesday, July 8, at 10 a.m.
