The Ministry of Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture, and Information in collaboration with the Taiwan Technical Mission has a planned pilot project that aims to enrich the tourism experience through the creation of SMART tourism solutions and an interactive story map.

The focus of this initiative will be to highlight landmarks in key areas, where QR code signs and plaques will be placed to provide information that would improve the visitor experience. As the pilot project unfolds, 16 sites from two communities, Castries and Soufriere have been selected with the aim to upscale Gros Islet in the second phase.

This innovative initiative will be launched on May 14, 2024 at the Constitution Park at 10 a.m. and aims to fuse technology and heritage, creating an immersive journey through the cultural, religious, and educational significant sites. The key components include comprehensive mapping, site selection, media documentation, interactive signage, and seamless integration, all meticulously designed to offer visitors and locals a dynamic exploration of the island's rich heritage.

The project involves creating two sets of physical and virtual maps featuring 16 sites in Castries and Soufriere, including landmarks like Sir John Compton Monument and the Sulphur Springs. The sites are chosen based on their cultural, religious, or educational significance in each district. Professional photography and videography are used to document the sites' essence and historical context. Audio information from QR code signs and plaques are also used to enhance visitor experience. The integration of these features into the virtual tour platform allows users to access multimedia content directly from the maps, deepening their understanding of each site's significance.

The smart tourism initiative aims to provide visitors and locals with a dynamic tour of cultural significant sites, enhancing their understanding of the country's heritage. The project will contribute to the documentation and preservation of the cultural, religious, and educational heritage for future generations.
