The Department of Sustainable Development and the Green Climate Fund (GCF) will launch the GCF NAP Readiness Project on Thursday February 8 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Bay Gardens Hotel Bougainvillea Conference Room, Rodney Bay.
The Minister with responsibility for Sustainable Development Hon. Shawn Edward will be in attendance. There will be an opportunity directly after the project launch (between 10:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.) for you to conduct interviews with our panel.
The Green Climate Fund (GCF) Readiness and Preparatory Support Programme Grant (also referred to as a GCF Readiness Project) has been awarded to The People and Government of Saint Lucia to assist in advancing the country’s National Adaptation Planning (NAP) process to ultimately increase access to Climate Change Adaptation Finance. The grant is worth USD 1,742,759, and the project is expected to be executed over a period of 30 months.
The first phase of the project seeks to support the advancement Saint Lucia’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP) process by strengthening the capacity of critical institutions and line ministries to develop Sectoral Adaptation Strategies and Action Plans (SASAPs) in remaining priority NAP sectors (education, infrastructure and spatial planning and tourism), and to clearly articulate adaptation priorities and needs in order to mobilise climate finance and move from adaptation planning to implementation.
The International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) will act as Delivery Partner, working closely with the Department of Sustainable Development to provide both technical expertise and project management support for the duration of the project. The GCF has engaged the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) to provide grant management support to IISD and Saint Lucia’s National Designated Authority to the GCF, the Department of Economic Development.
