THE MINISTRY IS SPEARHEADING AN INITIATIVE THAT BOLSTERS SENIOR SUPPORT SYSTEMS, ESPECIALLY IN THE FACE OF NATURAL DISASTERS AND EMERGENCIES.

The Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs reaffirms its commitment to safeguarding and honoring Saint Lucia’s older citizens as the island joins the global community in celebrating the International Day of Older Persons. This year’s theme highlights the crucial role seniors play in society, from shaping family traditions to guiding the future through their resilience and wisdom.

In a statement to the public, Hon. Moses Jn. Baptiste, Minister for Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs, underscored the significant contributions made by Saint Lucia’s seniors and called for greater awareness of the challenges they face, particularly during times of crisis. "Our seniors are not mere recipients of care; they are active participants in the ongoing story of our shared humanity. Their wisdom is a treasure that enriches our lives, and today, we reflect on their immeasurable impact on the nation," said Hon. Jn. Baptiste.

The Ministry is spearheading an initiative that focuses on bolstering support systems for older persons, especially in the face of natural disasters and emergencies. This includes strengthening community networks, creating senior-friendly safe spaces, and ensuring accessible information and medical support for older citizens.

According to the Health Minister, "Our seniors are particularly vulnerable during natural disasters, and as a society, we must ensure they are well-prepared and cared for during these challenging times. We are urging everyone to engage older persons in disaster preparedness discussions and to strengthen community networks that ensure their safety and well-being,” Minister Jn. Baptiste emphasized.

The Ministry will continue its efforts to create a compassionate, inclusive environment where older citizens are celebrated for their invaluable contributions to Saint Lucia's history, culture, and future. The public is encouraged to join in this important cause, ensuring that the wisdom and resilience of seniors continue to guide future generations.
