'Mosiah' movie screening in Saint Lucia

Wednesday, October 16, 2024

THE SCREENING WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE UWI GLOBAL CAMPUS ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF MARCUS GARVEY’S VISIT.

Saint Lucians will have the opportunity on Thursday, October 17, 2024, to attend the screening of Mosiah, the latest acclaimed documentary on the life, legacy, and times of Marcus ‘Mosiah’ Garvey.

The screening will take place at the UWI Global Campus, Morne Fortune, Castries, and is jointly sponsored by the Saint Lucia National Reparations Committee (NRC) and the Jamaica Chapter of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA).

The event will begin with a brief introduction from Stephen Golding, President of the Jamaica UNIA, a Garvey scholar and researcher who previously produced a documentary on Garvey’s influence in establishing August 31 as the International Day for People of African Descent, recognized by the United Nations in 2022.

Following the screening, a Question-and-Answer session will ensue with Mr. Golding, offering attendees an opportunity to engage directly with the material and delve deeper into Garvey’s enduring impact.

Having already premiered in the USA and Jamaica, the Mosiah documentary is being shown in Saint Lucia on the anniversary of Garvey’s historic visit to the island in 1936. The film will continue its regional tour with screenings in St. Vincent & the Grenadines on Friday, October 18, and Barbados on Saturday, October 19, both dates also marking the anniversary of Garvey’s visits to those islands.
