THE FIRST SEVERE WEATHER SYSTEM IN THE TROPICAL ATLANTIC HURRICANE SEASON, TROPICAL STORM BRET BROUGHT RAIN AND HEAVY WINDS TO SAINT LUCIA,

The first severe weather system in the tropical Atlantic Hurricane Season, Tropical Storm Bret brought rain and heavy winds to Saint Lucia, particularly to the south of the island.  Tropical Storm Bret is the first system to form so early in the season, making the June storm historic for that reason.

Prime Minister, Honourable Philip J Pierre, gave the all clear this morning, while airports are slated to reopen at 3pm today. Visitors are urged to check with their respective airlines and representatives for travel updates.

The Ministry of Tourism, Investment, Creative Industries, Culture and Information therefore advises its stakeholders to continue to be vigilant by ensuring all hurricane emergency plans remain activated and all protocols and emergency guidance are adhered to.

Tourism stakeholders are also urged to replenish their hurricane stock supplies and ensure that equipment and machinery required for operational efficiency continue to function as required.

The Ministry of Tourism also appeals to operators to remain abreast with official weather reports from the St. Lucia Met Services Office and National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), as well the tourism advisories from the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority in relation to flight information (www.stlucia.org).

As per protocols by the National Emergency Management Advisory Council (NEMAC), the Ministry of Tourism is required to gather information on the status of any impact of Tropical Storm Bret to tourism service operators.

As a result, stakeholders are advised to report any information regarding loss and damages sustained during the passage of Tropical Storm Bret. The information gathered is necessary for the Ministry of Tourism to provide support in the recovery efforts and continuity of the various businesses within the Tourism sector.
