Hon. Alva Baptiste, Minister for External Affairs, International Trade, Civil Aviation, and Diaspora Affairs of Saint Lucia, delivered a compelling address at the United Nations General Assembly where he called for the removal of US sanctions imposed on Cuba.
Minister Baptiste appealed to the United Nations to take decisive action to address the economic hardships faced by Cuba, and to work toward a future where nations collaborate in the spirit of mutual respect and shared prosperity.
"Saint Lucia has consistently called for an end to the US embargo on Cuba and its removal from the list of state sponsors of terrorism because we embrace the view that engaging Cuba diplomatically, rather than isolating it, will unlock opportunities to foster regional cooperation, critical for long-term peace and development in the Caribbean, as well as create an improved security architecture for the entire hemisphere.”
Minister Alva Baptiste reaffirmed Saint Lucia’s commitment to supporting Cuba and to promoting a just and equitable global order.
